His writing began in the 90's, first with short stories, then essays and a children's book about China. About 25 pieces have been published and six were included in anthologies. A long-time member of Authors Guild, he attended Breadloaf and the Yale Writing Conferences and was creditied in two best-sellers by Wally Lamb. His literary agent was Donald Gastwirth (deceased).
The concentration is now on literay narrative, in particular investigative work from "other side of society," the victims, the poor, those with no voicwe, unfairly sentenced and forgotten.
Since 2010 he has been volunteering with three others to facilitate writing at the only women's prison in Connecticut, York Correctional Institute. This experience has provided him with insight and contacts and a new purpose. His project now, four years in the making, involves helping a young woman inmate assaulted by the system, receiving an extraordinarily unfair sentence.
At one time he was a competitive marathoner. His daughter, Suki, was adopted from China. Together they visited 80 countries. He now lives with his wife, Connie, a teacher, in North Haven, Connecticut.
